
Bernice Maria Santos passed peacefully in her sleep on Dec.23,2012
at Epoch of Brewster. She was 96 years old and lived most of her life in Provincetown. She was the daughter of Manuel Simmons and Mary Enos.
She loved Provincetown. Being from a long line of seafaring folk -she loved the diversity of the small town from the artists at Captain Jack's Wharf,where she worked, to the many faces she would observe from the park benches in front of Town Hall, or while enjoying coffee with friends at Adam's Pharmacy.
A favorite part of her life in Provincetown was a swim in the cold water at Herring Cove beach on a hot August day. She regularly attended St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown.
Bernice's family was most important to her.
She leaves her daughter, Joan Wood and her husband Barry of Orleans, daughter Nancy Nelson and her husband Lars of San Francisco, Nina Groom and her husband Elmer of Jacksonville, FL She was predeceased by her husband John, daughter Marie Herd, and grandson Don. She also leaves beloved grandchildren: Robin, Darren, Jim, Lauren and Michael. She had 7 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Jan 5 at 10 a.m. @ St Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown.
