Middleboro – Lorraine A. (Woodward) McElroy 79, died Sunday December 30 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Warren McElroy.
Born and raised in Watertown she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Marion (Coutoure) Woodward and a graduate of Watertown High and Mount Ida College.
Prior to her move to Middleboro ten years ago she had been a longtime resident of Newton and later Hingham for many years.
Lorraine had been a familiar and friendly face serving as the secretary for the United Church of Christ in Abington for over ten years.
She was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her large family and her many friends.
She is survived by her loving children Mark McElroy and his partner Pedro of Weymouth, W. Donald McElroy of Scituate, Joseph McElroy and his wife Lori of South Attleboro, Lauren Runkal of Scituate, and John McElroy and his wife Christina of Abington, her sister Carol Stone of Springfield and her daughter-in-law Ellen McElroy of Canton as well as seventeen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Stephen McElroy.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday January 5 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A private burial will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Friday January 4 from 4-8 PM.
