Rena R. (Patenaude) Shannon, 90, a Chicopee resident for the past 90 years, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in her home with loved ones by her side. She was born in Chicopee on March 20, 1922, the daughter of the late Philabert and Catherine (Hassett) Patenaude. Rena was the widow of William J. Shannon who died April 28, 1986. Rena attended Chicopee Schools and graduated from Chicopee High School, Class of 1938 at the age of 16. Rena retired in 1983 from Super Brush Company in Chicopee after working over 16 years. In her leisure time she loved shopping and being with family. She leaves her loving children and spouses, Charlene Shannon and partner Jim Randolph, David Shannon and partner Janine Rider and Barbara Patton and her husband Pat Patton all of Chicopee. Also to cherish her memory are her 5 grandchildren, Joseph Cebula and Julie Nawracaj, Anthony Shannon and Nicole and Ryan Patton and 3 great grandchildren, Brandon and Aaliyah Nawracaj and Timothy Austin Jr. She also leaves many friends whose relationship was held close to her heart. She was predeceased by her sister’s Esther Labonte and Irene Krainski. Family meant the most to Rena; she went above and beyond her role as a mom, caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a mom, role model, dear mother-in-law and friend. She will always be remembered for her perseverance through life, she welcomed each day with a great love and enthusiasm and hope. She will be in our hearts forever, always remembered and always loved. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Grise Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Rose de Lima Church at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
