Obituary

Bernard T. “Bernie” Moran, age 86, passed away on Dec. 23, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on April 16, 1926 in Springfield. He was a son of the late Henry and Bertha (Pesh) Moran. He was a life time active member of St Patrick’s Church in Chicopee before he moved to Longmeadow in 1990 and became a Parishioner of St Mary’s Church. Bernie served in the Navy during WWII and served on the USS Bennigton. He retired as a Captain from the Chicopee Fire Department in 1991 after working over 42 years. Bernie was acting Deputy and Fire Chief. Bernie was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council #69 in Chicopee; a 4th degree Knight in Archbishop Williams Assembly of Knights of Columbus; a life member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks; the John Boyle O’Reilly Club; the American Legion Post 452 in Chicopee; the Forest Park VFW Post 7352; a member of the Irish Culture Center at Elms College and he was a member of the State County and Municipal Employees Association of MA. Bernie always had a project going. He kept busy all the time doing the lawn, gardening or volunteering at Blueberry Hill School. He was an excellent carpenter. Bernie loved animals. All the dogs going by the house pulled their owners in the yard to get their treats. He and Ann loved to travel around the United States, Canada, Nantucket, Ireland, Italy and England. He was educated in the Chicopee School System. He is predeceased by his wife Ann Moran who passed away on March 11, 2012. He leaves his son John Moran and his wife Regina of Abington, MA; 2 sister-in-laws Catherine Moran of Chicopee and Mary A. Quigley of Longmeadow; Brother-in-law James T. O’Donnell of East Longmeadow along with several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his 2 brothers, John Moran and Henry Moran Jr. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Mary’s Church in Longmeadow at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery in Chicopee.
