Jarion E. Childs, 27, of Washington, DC, died Monday morning of June 28, 2004.
He was born April 21, 1977 in Hickory, NC the son of James and Eva Childs.
Jarion, a fun loving young man who was capapble of generationg laughter from everyone that he was blessed to come in contact with. His family was always first. Whenever there was a need for love, compassion, devotion, fairness to be a mediator, a brother, brother-in-law, Jarion was a genuine soldier who could be counted on.
Jarion attended Fitch Senior High School where he was named “The Day’s” 1995 Basketball Player of the Year. He attended St. Thomas More Academy in Oakdale, Ct for a year before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from American University in Washington, DC.
At American University, Jarion was a two-time All Conference Player player, and a 2000 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year. Jarion ranked in top ten for steals in NCAA Division I History.
Jarion is survived by his parents, James and Eva Childs, his older brother James Childs Jr. and his wife Mary Childs; three sisters, Sharon Childs-Pehowdy and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, VA, Sendra Childs-Harris and husband Robert Harris of Virginia Beach, Sonya Childs of Groton,; 8 nieces and nephews, Dean, Joshua, Bryce, Torin, Lexus, Deion, Marilyn and Evan; and his maternal grandmother, Eva Jennings, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jarion’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 5-8pm. A service will be conducted on Saturday at 10am at the funeral home with burial following at Smith Lake Cemetery, Groton.
