MAGNOLIA: Barbara F. (Lane) Silva, 78, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Silva, who died in August of 2008. They had shared fifty-three years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on March 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Sheldon Tucker Lane and Mary Katherine (Harris) Lane. She grew up in Riverdale and Lanesville and was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1952.
She and Bob married in September of 1955 and began their family. She spent most of her time as a homemaker, but she did enjoy working part-time as a hostess at the former Dexter’s Hearthside. Barbara also loved summers on the beach and the company of the family pets, MC and Molly.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Terry (Conner) Silva; daughters, Cheryl F. Silva and Pamela J. Silva; three grandchildren, Robert Douglas Silva, Mark A. Silva, Jr. and Katie Silva; her sisters, Marcia Hurley, Norma Broady and Catherine McKay; brother David McKay; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her stepmother, Eunice McKay Lane.
A celebration of her life will be held privately. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Magnolia Historical Society, P. O. Box 5551, Magnolia, MA 01930.
