Obituary

CHICOPEE – Rita T. (Desrosiers) Major, 80, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on September 15, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Albert C. and Diana M. (Pineault) Desrosiers. She was raised in Fall River until her parents relocated to Chicopee in the late 1930’s where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was employed for many years as the Administrative Assistant for the family business at Desrosiers & Sons General Contractors in Chicopee. She was the longtime treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 132 in Chicopee. She was a communicant of the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee where she was a longtime member of the church choir. She was currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves: her loving children, Lawrence J. Major and his wife, Mary, of Arnold, MD, Cynthia M. Bourbeau and her husband, Alan, of Belchertown, Gregory A. Major and his wife, Susan McIntyre-Major, of Springfield, James D. Major and his wife, Pamela, of Wakefield, Brian M. Major and his wife, Paula Lane-Major, of Belchertown and Charlene A. Desjardins and her husband, James, of Belchertown; her 14 cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Corbin and Krystin Major, Heather Bourbeau-Chotkowski and her husband, Michael Chotkowski, Jessica Letzeisen and her husband, Brian and Sarah Bourbeau, Killian, Jamison and Devon Major, Kristina and Nicholas Major, Amanda Major and Tessa, James Jr. and Andrew Desjardins; her three cherished great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life, Harper and Tucker Chotkowski and Samantha Letzeisen; her dear brothers, Richard Desrosiers and his wife, Lorraine of Hadley and Robert Desrosiers and his wife, Rachel, of Chicopee; her dear sister, Lorraine Mainville of Leesburg, FL; her many dear nephews and nieces; and her former husband, Dolor R. Major of Monson. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, December 22, 2012 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
