Obituary

MIDDLEBORO – Gerard C. Silva, husband of Esther L. (Kenney) Silva, died at his Middleboro home on Dec. 16, 2012.
He was 83.
Born in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Agnelo and Mary (Farias) Silva.
Educated in Newport schools, he later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
A retired high school teacher, Mr. Silva taught Plant and Machine Maintenance at the Tri-County Regional Technical Vocational High School in Franklin from 1979 to 1991.
He was also employed by Bay State Crucible in Taunton, concurrently, as well as prior to and following his teaching years.
A communicant of Holy Family Church in East Taunton, Mr. Silva was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion; and was a recipient of the Marian Medal Award.
Throughout his long and productive life, he selflessly dedicated most of his free time to using his wide-ranging skills as a craftsman and handyman, in assisting his family, friends and Holy Family Church.
He was known as one who tirelessly sought out those in need, consistently displaying a work ethic second to none.
During the time he allotted to himself, he enjoyed carving and other woodcraft.
In addition to wife of Middleboro, he leaves two sons, Stephen E. Silva and his wife Nancy of Waltham, and Roger J. Silva and his wife Lynell of Medway; a daughter, Rosemary Simmons and her husband Kenneth of Middleboro; a sister, Florence Rose and her husband Ronald of East Taunton; seven grandchildren; and three nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at Holy Family Church, East Taunton on Wednesday, Dec. 19th at 10 a.m.
Private interment will follow at the MA National VA Cemetery in Bourne.
Funeral home calling hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
