Emily W. “Babs” (Dillion) Carreiro, 83, of New Bedford died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Carreiro, to whom she was married for 60 years.
Mrs. Carreiro was born and raised in New York to the late Ernest R. and Josephine (Sexton) Dillion. She lived there until meeting her husband in New Bedford where they wed, raised their children and resided all of their lives. Mrs. Carreiro always continued her joyful laughter, beaming her beautiful smile even after becoming ill, while her devoted husband Joseph dedicated over a decade to her care. She was an uplifting spirit which was inspirational to all around her. Mrs. Carreiro loved antiques and was owner and operator of Eagle Antiques. One of her favorite past times was going to Foxwoods Casino with her husband. Mrs. Carreiro’s family was her world and she will always be loved and greatly missed.
Survivors include her sons: John Carreiro of NY and Richard Carreiro of CA; her daughter: Cheryl Carreiro Pacheco of New Bedford; her brother-in-law Richard Carreiro and his wife Leonora of New Bedford; her sister-in-law Norma Sylvia and her husband Antone of Westport; her grandchildren: Shawn and Erin Pacheco and Justin and Katherine Carreiro; her great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Julia, Shawn, Jr., Summer, Camden and Scarlett, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carreiro’ s family would like to acknowledge all who loved her as they did including Richard James, Mary Pacheco, Robert D. Erickson and Virginia Carreiro.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 8 A.M. from the Kirby Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. at Holy Name Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, New Bedford.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be private.
