Ruth M. Scott, age 100, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada on August 22, 1912 she was a dear daughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth (Bryson) Scott.
Her family moved to Norton when she was two years old. She was a graduate of Norton High School and the Hubbard Business School.
Prior to retiring, Ruth was had worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at the former Norton Center Garage, a business owned and operated by her family in the center of town for many years.
She had previously been employed in the same capacities at the L.G. Balfour Co. in Attleboro, the Robinson-Rayon Co. in Providence and for the Newcomb Home later known as the Daggett Crandall Newcomb Home in Norton.
Ruth was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and a former member of the Unitarian Church in Norton.
She loved gardening, especially growing roses and tomatoes, and the beauty of her beautiful wild flower garden. Another favorite part of her life were the trips to her families cape house in Falmouth and taking in the beauty of the ocean and refreshing sea breezes.
Ruth’s family was the essence of her life and she enjoyed visiting relatives from near and as far away as California and Canada.
She was the devoted sister of the late John B., Hugh, Andrew, Malcolm and Roy Scott, Anne Dillon and Ruby Eddleston. She is survived by her cherished 2 nieces, 6 nephews and many great nieces and nephews as well as many great-great nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held in the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Center Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing may remember Ruth with a donation in her memory made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000 Dept.142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
