New Bedford – Mary G. Maiato, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jaime C. Maiato. Mrs. Maiato was the beloved mother of Mary C. Roberts wife of Mark M. of New Bedford and Joseph C. Maiato and Beverly of Warren, RI. Mary was the sister of Liliana Raminhos of Dartmouth. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and 2 god-children.
Mrs. Maiato was the mother of the late Marine Corporal James C. Maiato Jr. and was predeceased by several siblings.
Mrs. Maiato was the daughter of the late Teresa (Afonce) and the late Antonio J. Pereira. She was born in New Bedford but spent her early years in St. Michael, Azores then returned to this area at age 25. Mary worked as a Clothing Inspector at Berkshire Hathaway. She was a proud Gold Star Mother and Communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Maiato’s funeral will be Friday, December 14th at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St.. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 5-8 P.M.Family and friends are invited.
