Obituary

Worcester - Richard A. Swedberg, 70, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center. He leaves his beloved wife of 48 years, Ethel R. (Nordstrom) Swedberg; one daughter and two sons, Kim M. Swedberg of Worcester, Richard S. Swedberg and his wife Joyce of Worcester, and Jon S. Swedberg and his wife Lucy of Sharon; six grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, and Emily Holden, and Griffin, Madison, and Dylan Swedberg (with a seventh due in late December); brother, Robert F. Swedberg and his wife Karen of Sterling; sister, Linda M. Berglund and her husband Raymond of Iowa; sister-in-law, Sonja Swedberg (Mrs. C. Harold) of CT; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and extended family. He was predeceased by a brother, C. Harold Swedberg and a sister, Barbara S. Swedberg.

Richard was born in Worcester, son of the late Marjorie S. (White) and Clarence H. Swedberg and was a graduate of Commerce High School. He worked at Norton Co. and retired from Saint-Gobain in Worcester. He was an active member of Salem Covenant Church where he served as a youth group leader and on the Membership Care Commission. He was a member of Nordic Lodge No. 611 Vasa Order of America and the Greendale Men's Club. An avid sports lover and Boston Red Sox fan, he coached soccer teams for Burncoat High School (JV) and Worcester Youth Soccer League. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage. Most of all, he adored his wife and took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012. All are welcome to attend a 10 a.m. graveside service at All Faiths Cemetery, 9 Island Road, Worcester. Following the burial, an 11 a.m. memorial service will be held at Salem Covenant Church, 215 E. Mountain St., Worcester MA 01606. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salem Covenant Church Memorial Fund.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UMass Memorial's Heart & Vascular ICU, Lakeside 3, for their extraordinary care and compassion.
