James "Jim" G. Bridges, Sr.

James G. "Jim" Bridges, Sr., 94, of Anderson died December 11, 2012 at St. Vincent's Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Jim was born September 1, 1918 to Joseph W. and Martha Z (Walker) Bridges in Carthage, Miss. where he graduated from Carthage High School. He attended Anderson University.
He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He worked at J.C. Penney, East Side Dairy, Delco Remy then he was a clerk and a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years before retiring in 1982. After retirement, he worked part - time at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service 4 years and worked at Executive Office of the Church of God for 11 years.
He attended Park Place Church of God where he was an usher for 72 years.
He was a member of East Side Community Club, Mr. and Mrs. Club; retired U.S. Postal Employees, AARP, and several prayer groups.
He is survived by his 3 children: James G. Bridges, Jr., Janice K. (Daniel) Gaunt, Jerrold Lee (Karen) Bridges all of Anderson; sister, Melba Evelyn Thornton of Ridgeland, Miss; 3 grandchildren, Joseph (Christen) Gaunt; Peter A. (Candace) Gaunt and Kelsey E. Bridges; 2 great grandchildren Reilly and Benjamin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Johanna (Kirkegaard) Bridges and 8 siblings, William "Willie" Bridges; Warner Bridges; Bertie Ruth Draper; Dorothy Bridges; Leon Bridges; Herman Bridges; Mary Lee Ashton and Lillian Irvin.
Services will be on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Park Place Church of God with Dr. Donald Johnson; Pastor Don Collins and Dr. David Markle officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Park Place Church of God.
