Obituary

Iola Jean Rogers

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Iola Jean Rogers, age 80, entered into rest Monday, December 10th, 2012 after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 15th, 2012 at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA with Reverend Jerry Wilson officiating. Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon and will be preceded by visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Deans Bridge Road in Augusta.

A Native of Greenville, Michigan Mrs. Rogers was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel Fox Giles. She and her family moved to Augusta, GA in 1966 and was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Rogers in 2004 after 51 years of marriage.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her three daughters, Jackie Rogers Siple (Charles) of Rockledge, Florida, Margaret Rogers Centers (Bob) of Augusta, Georgia and Dianne Rogers Wade (John) of Maineville, Ohio. Five grandchildren Ben Siple (Whittney), Angela Siple, John Robert Wade, Maggie Centers and Joshua Wade. She is also survived by her two brothers Arley Giles (Hilda) of Greenville, Michigan and Don Giles (Jan) of Ellenton, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

Iola was also considered a mother to many in her community, church families and softball players—she’ll be most remembered for her countless hours and devotion to her church families; whether it be teaching Sunday School classes, chaperoning countless retreats and camps for children and youth and was always among the first to help out when families faced times of crisis. She supported her husband each season by being a “coaches wife” for over 20 years with his softball and rifle teams. Known as an encourager Iola was always quick to pay everyone a compliment; whether it be complimenting on their new hairdo, weight loss or even just a “you look great today” people always came away from seeing her feeling a bit better about themselves. A favorite Bible verse of her daughters has always been Proverbs 31:28; “Her children rise up and call her blessed”. Leading by example Iola leaves a legacy of loving her God, her husband and her family. She will be missed by all who knew her and the family stories will continue on forever.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care at Wasdin Woods, 661 Eyster Blvd., Rockledge, Florida 32955.
