Browning, Emogene "Jean" Adkins, 88, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2012.
Jean was originally from McAndrews, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Elder Dan and Bertha Adkins, and the oldest of ten children. After graduating from Pikeville College, she began her teaching career in Pike County at age 18. She later graduated from Nazareth College and taught at Rockford Lane and Crums Lane elementary schools in JCPS. Mrs. Browning retired in 1981 after 38 years of dedicated service. Jean was a member of The Louisville Primitive Baptist Church in Eastwood, KY. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, camping and fishing on Rough River Lake, and calling Bonita Springs, Florida her home during winters.
Jean is preceded in death by brothers, Ray (Faye) and Bill Joe Adkins; sisters, Racine (Joe) Daniels, Gheraldine (Joel) Stanaland, and Arlene Dillender; brother-in-law, J.M. Pearson; nephews, Craig Adkins and Donnie Smith, Jr.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Roy C. Browning; son, Cliff (Jan) Browning, Jr.; niece, Janice Lynn Stanaland, whom they helped raise; brothers Harold (Charlene) Adkins and Alvis Adkins; sisters Jacqueline Pearson and Karoldene (Don) Smith; brother-in-law Harry Dillender; sister-in-law Carol Adkins; and several nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.
The family would like to express their special thanks for the kind and loving care she received at Summerfield Health and Rehab Center.
Visitation will be 1 - 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Owens Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. Her funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Owens Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky, Friday, December 14, 2012.
