Lorraine J. (Bergevin) Bradbury, age 86 and a former resident of Salem, died Sunday at Peabody Glen Healthcare Center following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Walter J. Bradbury.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Eloi and Dorcina (Leger) Bergevin. As a young woman Lorraine entered and won several beauty pageants and dance contests. Over the years she worked for Woolworth’s and later for the former Webber’s Department Store both of Salem. She also worked briefly for the New England Telephone Co. in the Salem office.
Lorraine and Walter moved to Nashua, NH for a number of years. When Walter’s health began to fail the couple returned to Salem and Lorraine devoted the rest of their married life caring for him. She was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish and member of Les Dames de la Ste. Famille of that parish.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bergevin of Swampscott and Caroline Bradbury of Millis, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Laurence, Raymond and Robert Bergevin.
Relatives and friends are invited to an hour of visitation on Thursday, December 13, 2012 for 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 11:00 AM.
