William C. Hailey, a resident of Newton Centre, who was an aeronautical engineer for Avco of Wilmington, died Monday June 21, 2004 at Newton Wellesley Hospital.Born in Boston, he graduated from Roslindale High School and received his degree in Engineering from Boston University. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in the line of duty. He worked at Avco for over 25 years and had worked for NASA previous to that. In the 1970’s he helped found Paracure, a spinal cord injury foundation.Husband of the Dr. Renate (Weis) Hailey M.D., he is survived by his son Hans R. Hailey of Westwood, his granddaughter Alexa Hailey, his sister Alice Marie Proskauer of NY and his nieces Heather Jacobson of NY and Penelope Corbett of Hanson.Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St Newton Corner on Fri June 25 at 10:30 AM and proceed to a graveside service at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St. Newton Centre at 11 AM.
