Barnes, James Whitney, 84, passed away December 4, 2012 at Essex Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was a Baptist by faith and retired from National Homes as a woodworker. James was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda (Burton) Barnes.
Survivors include son, James Kevin Barnes (Patty); granddaughter, Hannah Opal Barnes; and sister, Arvella Gilpin.
Funeral service will be 11am Thursday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-8 at the funeral home.
