Louis T. Colombo, age 84, of Carver formerly of Brockton, died peacefully Saturday December 1, 2012 surrounded by his family at Life Care Center of Plymouth. He was the loving husband for 61 years of Helen (Newell) Colombo. Lou was born, raised and educated in Brockton, son of the late Alexander and Lucy (Lupo) Colombo. During WWII he served in the Navy on the USS Saipan Aircraft Carrier and after nearly 40 years of employment, retired from the Brockton Edison Company. Lou loved to spend time with his family, and enjoyed time at the Raynham Dog Track, watching all sports, dancing, bird watching and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children Alexander “Allie” Colombo and his fiance Debbie Rubicine of Wareham and Jean Skelly and her husband Peter of Wareham; three grandchildren Anthony Colombo of San Diego, CA and Justin and Courtney Skelly both of Wareham; a sister Delia Lessard of Brockton and brother Salvatore Colombo of Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Millie Briguglio.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday 3-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 8am for a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Parish at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. It was Lou’s wish that donations in his name be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, specify Breast Cancer Research, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, in honor of the women in his life with the disease.
