THOR R. HERSTAD a Hingham resident for 48 years, died on Friday, June 18th at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. Mr. Herstad, 83, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. During World War II, he served with the SeaBees in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater, mainly in the Philipines, Trinidad and Hawaii. He was a salesman for many years for Robbins Beef Company in Boston, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Hingham Civic Chorus, Old Colony Masonic Lodge of Hingham, a former Sunday School Teacher at the Hingham Congregational Church, former treasurer of the New North Church in Hingham and was an avid sportsman.He leaves his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Pyne) Herstad of Hingham; three daughters, Gwen Herstad of Ottawa, Canada, Lisa Koed of Cohasset and Julie Herstad of Chatham, New Hampshire and his sister, Corinne Mikulak of Laurel, MD. He was the grandfather of Evan Rundge, Kristen Rundge and Timothy Rundge all of Canada; and Ashley Koed and Mariel Koed both of Cohasset. Also survived by 3 nieces.A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, June 27th at 3 PM at the New North Church, One Lincoln St., Hingham.The are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, P.O. Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185-9060 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.The interment is to be private.
