George A. Morris, Jr., 88, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at the Irwin County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Braziel officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Morris was born July 9, 1924 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late George Allen Morris and Gladys Hyde Morris. He was a retired salesman for Cherokee Brick and Tile Company. He was 1941 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, was a former Ben Hill County Commissioner and former Toastmaster. He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church where he had been Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years: Mary Alice Brown Morris of Fitzgerald; daughters: Rhonda M. (Gary) Walker of Ty Ty; Jan Morris of Birmingham, Alabama; son: Allen Morris of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Jamie & Candy Harris, Philip & Christi Sharple, Mick & Cristy Helms, Stacy & Brandon LeMaster, Matt & Christy Sharple and Amy and Stephen Tinsley; great grandchildren: Taylor Sharple, Kayla Redding, Riley Redding, Ashton Sharple, Tyler Phillips and Madison & Landon Tinsley; sister-in-law, Dottie Morris. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Carl.
