Floyd “Vaughn” Cromer, 75, of Tifton died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Brighton Road Baptist Church. Rev. David Janero and Rev. Jack Perrin will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons, Derek Pitts, Kurt Pitts, Jared Tompkins and Jacob Tompkins, as well as Tim Ross and Tommy Johnson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Tyler, James Martin, Dr. Jim Scott, Dr. Brent Savelli, Dr. Clifford Walker, Roy Walker, Doodle Thomoson, Darrell Osborne, Ronnie Brooks, Lonnie Boyd, Albert Drexler and Vicki Salensky. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 2, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Brighton Road Baptist Church. The family will be at the home of Vaughn and Rudine Cromer, 506 Brighton Road in Tifton.
Mr. Cromer was born on March 23, 1937 in Tift County and was the son of Floyd Cromer and Louise Paulk Cromer, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann Pippin. He retired from the Tifton Gazette and was a member of Brighton Road Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He loved gardening, loved his church and the church grounds always being beautiful. He also served in the United States Army.
Mr. Cromer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rudine Lawson Cromer of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law Phyllis and Wendell Pitts of Tifton and Lynda and Paul Tompkins of Moultrie; four grandsons and their spouses, Derek and Brooke Pitts of Winder, Kurt and Molly Pitts, Jared Tompkins and Jacob Tompkins, all of Tifton; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Bell Pitts, who her “Papa” said “is the prettiest little girl ever”.
