Sgt. John E. “ Jack “ Burke Jr. of Medway, formerly of Quincy and a Corrections Officer Supervisor at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office in Dedham,MA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday November 29, 2012. He was 60 years old.
Survivors include his three cherished children who were the focal point of his life, Dylan J. Burke, Dayna C. Burke, David J. Burke all of Medway, his three sisters, Gail A. Haslam and her husband Edwin of North Carolina and Florida, Janice B. Christen and her husband Paul of Sagamore Beach, Denise C. Doyle and her husband Richard of Quincy, and his former wife Kelly ( Pavlosky ) Burke also of Medway. Other survivors include his aunt Mary A. Burke of Dorchester, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends and co-workers at the Norfolk County House Of Correction and Jail in Dedham,MA. The Burke family would like to acknowledge and thank William LeBlanc and his daughter Jeanette for their dedicated care and support of Jack during his final days.
Born September 18, 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts Jack was the only son born to the late Rita G. (Welch) and John E. Burke Sr. He attended Thayer Academy and was a 1970’ graduate of North Quincy High School. He also attended Quincy Junior College. He was also a current union member of the CCOA .
Sgt. Burke was employed as a Corrections Officer by the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office in Dedham,MA for over 26 years. After being promoted to Sgt. In 1990, Jack served in various leadership positions, including: Community Outreach Counselor, Classification Officer, Director of Classification, ADS of Security and Project Supervisor of the EIP Program. He was also a Transportation Officer earlier in his career. Jack was the recipient of numerous letters of commendation from Norfolk County residents, community members and ranking officers at the NCSO.
Jack’s hobbies included trip’s to Harwich on Cape Cod, boating outings to Spectacle Island and cruising Boston Harbor with his sister Denise and her husband Richard. He also loved to enjoy an occasional scratch ticket or two. He was a proud member of the K of C in North Quincy. Jack will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially his nephew Richard M. Doyle of Quincy with whom he had a special bond with.
A funeral mass to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Wednesday December 5, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Agatha’s Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Interment will immediately follow at Milton Cemetery, 211 Centre Street, Milton. At Jack’s request, visiting hours have been omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of one’s choice in Jack’s memory, would be appreciated.
