Obituary

Zinaida (Afanasiw) Sullivan, of Plymouth, died at her home in Plymouth on November 23rd at the age of 91. She was the beloved wife of the late Lucien Sullivan and is survived by her sons Paul Sullivan and his wife Patricia of Topsham, ME and Robert Sullivan and his wife Bonnie of Plymouth. She was the mother of the late Susan M. Long. She also leaves her sister Luba Brilliant of Brantrock, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Sister of the late John Afanasiw, Paul Afanasiw and Vera DiMetranko.
Zinaida was born in Kharkov, Ukraine. She fled the Ukraine at the beginning of WWII and was captured by Germans and forced to work in labor camps. After WWII and her liberation, she worked as an operating room nurse in a U.S. military hospital in Germany. Zinaida arrived in the U.S. in 1947 and taught herself English. She worked at Jordan Hospital as a nurses’ aide and became a U.S citizen on October 26, 1953. Zinaida had also worked as a union member seamstress at Mackintosh in Brockton, a bookkeeper and a mail clerk at Wiggs by Paula until 2001. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, spending summers in Falmouth and in the mountains of New Hampshire though her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 29th at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) from 10 AM to 12 PM followed by a funeral service at 12PM. Burial will follow at Couch Cemetery in Marshfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Cr, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
