Mary C. (O’Connell) Casey, 86, of Worcester died Thursday, November 22nd in Notre Dame Long Term Care. Her husband of 34 years, Richard Casey died in 1985. She leaves a daughter, Kathleen M. Chase and her husband, David of Worcester; four sons, Richard G. Casey and his wife, Nancy L. of Worcester, Stephen M. Casey and his wife, Elizabeth of Worcester, William E. Casey and his wife, Mary of Paxton and James F. Casey and his wife, Tracy of Holden; a dedicated brother, William O’Connell of Worcester; two sisters in law, Marilyn O’Rourke and Alice O’Connell both of Worcester; a brother in law, John Duffy of Rye Beach, NH; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Jane O’Brien and Helen Duffy.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of William and Mary (Cavanaugh) O’Connell and graduated from the former High School of Commerce. Mrs. Casey was a secretary for Dr. Fallon and the Norton Company. She was a member of the former St. Charles Borromeo Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and involved in many other church activities. Mary was always very family oriented; she loved music and the beach. She was very social and pleasant. She always said her strong faith helped her cope with multiple health problems and hospitalizations over the years.
Mary’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center for the compassion and care that she received.
Her funeral is Monday, November 26th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at NOON in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, November 25th from 3:00 until 6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01602, the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
