Katherine E. (Cunningham) Spires, 92, died peacefully on Nov. 19 at her home in Andover Ma.
She was born in Lawrence MA. on Nov. 6, 1920 to Thomas and Kathryn (Hurley) Cunningham. Mrs. Spires attended St. Mary’s School from kindergarten through high school. She received her R.N. degree from Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1939, and was president of her class for all three years.
Katherine (Kay) practiced nursing at LGH and private duty for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Andonna Society and a Kiwanis wife. She enjoyed golfing, writing, calligraphy, needlework and New England sports. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Lawrence Ma, St. Robert Bellarmine Parish and St. Augustine’s in Andover. She was a eucharistic minister and gave to many Catholic charities.
Katherine was the wife of the late John (Jack) Spires. She leaves her sister Mary (Cunningham) Dodge of Woodbury CT, her children: Craig Spires and his wife Claire of Hampstead NH, Kathie Oliver and husband William of Tyngsboro MA, John Spires Jr. and his wife Carlene of Andover MA, Mark Spires and his wife Karen of Salem NH; grandchildren Sean Spires and his wife Karen of Hampstead Nh, Danielle Kulicki and husband Greg of Sandown NH, Leah Murnane and husband Patrick of Andover MA, John Spires III (Jay) and wife Kaitlin of Portsmouth NH, Rebecca Spires of Andover MA, William and Samuel Oliver of Tyngsboro MA, and Jennifer and Michael Spires of Salem NH, as well as six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her brother Thomas Cunningham of Dayton OH and sister, Frances (Cunningham) Knightly of Springfield MA.
Katherine was filled with more faith and love than any one person could hold, and passed it on to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial mass at St. Mary’s Church, Lawrence, MA on Wednesday Nov. 28, at 10:00 am. Memory share at 9:00 am. A private burial will follow at the Immaculate Cemetery in Lawrence immediately following the mass.
