Mr. William Augustus Baldwin, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Madeline Ann (Brockhoven) Baldwin, died at the Woodbriar Nursing Ceneter in Wilmington on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. He was 97 years old.
Born in Boston on January 26, 1915, he was the beloved son of the late William A. and Mary (Brown) Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin was a WWII Navy veteran. Bill worked as a teacher for the Medford Public School System for more than 30 years. While he worked as a teacher, Mr. Baldwin also worked for South Postal in Boston, for more than 27 years. Mr. Baldwin was a graduate of Tufts, class of 1937 and received his MA from Tufts in 1939. Bill was a very active alumnae and made monetary contributions to the university annually. In his spare time, Bill loved gardening around his home, listening to all types of music and dancing. He had a passion for recycling, many years before it became common practice.
Bill will be lovingly missed by his children; Janice M. Baldwin of Putney, Vermont, William A. and his wife Evelyn A. Baldwin of Andover, Martha A. and Victor W. Tkacs of North Andover, Ann Marie and her husband Richard A. Decembrele of Walpole, Mark D. and his wife Kathleen A. Baldwin of Quincy and Kathleen E. and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Lovold of San Rafael California, sister; Elizabeth “Betty” Reardon of Charlton, grandchildren; Thomas, Madeline, William, Karen, Kevin, Richard, Christopher and Matthew and his wife’s niece; Marie Komar of Milton.
His funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday, November 26, 2012, at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 2 to 5 PM. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
