Geoffrey R. Stokes, of Pelham NH and formerly of Medford, died peacefully Monday in the company of his loving family at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He was 72.
Geoffrey was born and raised in Beverly the son of the late Edward and Olive Levina (Jones) Stokes. He served in the Army National Guard and worked as a retail salesman in the heating and air-conditioning industry. A popular salesman with a winning personality, Geoffrey was successful in his trade. A Medford resident for over 40 years, Geoff and his wife Marian raised their four children in Medford’s Fulton Heights. Geoff played and coached men’s softball, enjoyed golf and was a fixture at all his children’s sporting events. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren and enjoyed them all the more once he retired to New Hampshire. Geoffrey had many friends and was loved by all who knew him due to his unique sense of humor. After the tragic death of his son, he helped his wife with the establishment of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The beloved husband of Marian(Sylvester) Stokes with whom he shared 52 years of marriage, he was a devoted father to Karen A. Stokes of Medford and her long-time companion Paul Cardinal, Michelle D. Joyce and her husband James of Windham, NH, Geoffrey R. Stokes and his wife Laurie of North Reading and the late Michael V. Stokes. He was a loving grandfather to Kayla Marie and Jake Michael. He was also the dear brother of E. Parker Stokes, David C. Stokes and Bradford T. Stokes.
Family and friends may visit Friday, November 23rd from 3-8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, and again on Saturday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass offered in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
