Samuel George “Sam” Cox, 73, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Services will be private.
Mr. Cox was born July 10, 1939 in Moultrie, Georgia to the late Thomas Lee and Bessie Leona Perkins Cox. He moved to Ben Hill County, Georgia in 1990 from Melbourne, Florida where he had worked for the NASA at the Kennedy Space Center for 24 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War era. He formerly worked with Meredith Pole and Timber Company and Tolleson Lumber in Fitzgerald. He attended Crossview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Patricia Ann Wright Cox of Fitzgerald; two daughters:
Penny L. Stewart and Samantha G. Cox both of Fitzgerald; a nephew whom he raised: Marty S. Cox of Melbourne, Florida; two grandchildren: Nathan Stewart and Danielle Stewart; four great-grandchildren: Ileana, Nakiah, Tiana, and Brooke; and one sister: Bessie Mae Sheffler of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Leland Cox and Charles Cox.
