Diah S. (Silva) DaLomba, 102, of New Bedford, died November 16, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late John DaLomba.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Leopoldina (Lomba) Silva, she lived in New Bedford since 1954.
Mrs. DaLomba was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading and meditating on God's words, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved her Church where she was well known for baking cookies from her special recipes.
Survivors include 2 sons, Arthur Lomba of New Bedford and Helder DaLomba of Illinois; a daughter, Lucia Balla and her husband Reinaldo of Taunton; Ilda DeBarros, who Diah raised as her own daughter, of Dartmouth; 2 sisters, Ana Lopes and Marion Manosh, both of Pawtucket, RI; 4 grandchildren, William, Nicia, Michelle and Noelle; 6 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Nolan, Andrew, Evan, Adam and Molly; a dear "niece", Maria "Bibi" Lopes of Cape Cod; a much loved nephew, Jose Lomba and his family of Boston; her sister-in-law, Silvia Silva of Providence, RI; her devoted care giver, Zenaida Delgado; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
She was the sister of the late Abram Silva, Joseph Silva and Lidia Valles, and mother-in-law of the late Carol (Santos) Lomba and Catherine (Suffern) DaLomba.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ahmet Dirican and his staff for the many years they provided for Diah's medical needs.
The family also feels deep appreciation for the way in which Pastors Jose Delgado and Ramiro Monteiro provided for Diah's spiritual needs during the time she was confined to her home.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 20th at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 19th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
