GLOUCESTER: Esther A. (Williams) Mattson, 94, formerly of Essex Avenue, died early Sunday morning, November 11, 2012 at the Golden Living Center following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late William R. Mattson, who died in 1992.
Born in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland, Canada on July 3, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Margaret (Murphy) Williams. She was a graduate of St. Ann’s High School.
Esther was a person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. While raising her sons, she took great pleasure in her home, family and friends. Those years were filled with many happy memories for all. Later in life, she often took the bus downtown to shop and stop for a bite to eat. More recently, while still at her home, her daughter-in-law, Roseanna, along with her mother, Virginia, were her primary caregivers. They had wonderful times together. On Fridays, she also looked forward to her visits with her sister-in-law, Betty.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Roseanna (Frontiero) Mattson of Beverly; two grandchildren, Anthony J. Mattson of Peabody and Michael Mattson, currently serving in the U.S.C.G. in Portland, ME; a sister, Marion Drohan, two sisters-in-law, Betty Williams and Margaret Williams; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Roger T. Mattson; two granddaughters, Melissa A. and Gina M. Mattson; one sister, Margaret McHenry; and two brothers, William Williams and Theodore Williams.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday in the Beverly Seventh Day Adventist Church, 499 Rantoul Street, Beverly at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Please omit flowers. Committal services will be held privately in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
