Irene M. (Wisniewski) Fonneman, of Cedar Drive, No. Stonington, died Sunday at the Westerly Hospital, just 2 days after her 89th birthday.
She was the wife of the late Francis W. “Frank” Fonneman Jr.
Irene was born in Brooklyn NY in 1915 the daughter of Vincent and Carrie Wisniewski. She was married to Francis W. “Frank “ Fonnemann in New York in 1949. They enjoyed 40 years of marriage before his death in September, 1989.
In earlier years, Irene was employed as a clerk at the former Railroad Salvage Store in Groton. She later devoted her time to raising her family. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church, and had served as Justice of the Peace. In later years, she enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by her sons, Francis M. Fonnemann III of Westerly, and Michael and Vincent Fonnemann, both of No. Stonington; 5 grandchildren, and a sister, Hattie Grandstaff of NY. She was predeceased by a sister, Stella Price and a grandson, Michael R. Fonnemann.
Irene’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, on Wednesday from 12:30-1pm, immediately followed by a service at 1pm. Burial will follow in Pendleton Hill Cemetery.
