Obituary

NEW BEDFORD -- Faith H. (Gurney) Simas, 84, of New Bedford died unexpectedly Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Sunrise Assisted Living Facility, where she had resided temporarily for therapy following surgery. She was the widow of Frank Simas.

Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Jonathan R. and Gertrude E. (Rounsville) Gurney, she grew up in Freetown, but resided most of her life in New Bedford.

A longtime member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, she was chairwoman of the Deaconnate and was involved with the Women's Fellowship.

Over the years, she was a member of the Agawam Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #121, the Ivy Circle, the New Bedford Women's Club, the Massachusetts State Federation of Women's Clubs, the General Federation of Women's Clubs and the Cabot Club.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews; grandneices and grandnephews; and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Her funeral will be on Thursday June 17, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Purchase and School Streets, New Bedford, Ma. followed by burial in Rounsville Cemetery, Freetown, Ma. Visiting hoursare on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
