PEABODY- Grace M. (Webster) Lockard, 80, of Peabody, wife of the late Donald C. Lockard, died Friday morning, June 11, 2004, at Radius Healthcare at Beverly following a long illness.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert E. and Elsie S. (Swasey) Webster.
Mrs. Lockard was employed as a hairdresser in the salon of the former Webber’s Department Store in Beverly, and later owned and operated the Carillon beauty shop also located in Beverly.
A resident of Peabody for the past 10 years, she lived in New York for several years before returning to the North Shore in 1963, living in Beverly and Danvers before moving to Peabody. She was a member of the Peabody Council on Aging, the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, and the Wesley United Methodist Church in Salem. She enjoyed Yoga, taking courses and exploring the philosophies associated with self help. With a great love for animals, she was a supporter of various animal care organizations.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Lockard of Danvers, one brother, Walter E. & his wife Dorothy Webster of Saugus, several nieces and nephews, two dear friends whom she looked upon as her “adopted children” Elizabeth “Rose” Everett of Gloucester, Doug “Gus” Dean of Danvers, and her beloved pet cat Tequila. She was predeceased by one daughter, Debra Anne Lockard, one brother, Leonard Webster and two sisters, Shirley L. Irving and Alice E. Bianchi.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 11 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be Wednesday morning, from 10 to 11, prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
