Bruno M. Skiba, 93, a resident of Andover for many years, died peacefully Saturday, November 3, 2012 in Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
Bruno, son of the late Martin and Helena (Gonusiz) Skiba, was born in Lawrence on September 13, 1919. His wife, Blanche M. (Kasanovich) Skiba died in 1997. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II and served in the European Theatre Operations, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, One Battle Star and a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1946 having received the rank of Staff Sergeant. In the Pushmataha Historical Society located in Antlers, Oklahoma, Bruno has a permanent exhibit of his World War II ribbons, a Massachusetts Senate Commendation and his Bronze Star, as well as other artifacts of the war and his participation in it. Bruno retired from the Bolton - Emerson Co. where he worked for many years.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinists, the Andover Haven Associates, Ward 6 Political Club and the Arlington Social Club.
Bruno will be missed by his son, Barry Skiba of Oklahoma; one step-daughter, Kathleen Sheehy of Haverhill; one step-son, Daniel Sheehy of California; a half-sister, Stacia Cyr of Salisbury; one sister-in-law, Julia Peters of Maine and several nephews and nieces.
