Obituary

CHICOPEE – Helen P. (Praisner) Cyran, 96, of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Saturday, November 3, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Westfield on October 22, 1916, a beloved daughter of the late Peter and Adeline (Romanowicz) Praisner. At a young age, her family moved to Chicopee where she was raised and lived the remainder of her life. In 1934, Helen graduated from Chicopee High School and in 1938, she graduated from the former Wesson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurse Degree. She was employed for many years as a Registered Nurse at the former Wesson Memorial Hospital and later was a longtime school nurse for over 19 years for the Chicopee School Department. During her leisure time Helen was an avid reader and loved to watch sports. She adored her family, was a wonderful homemaker and showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Peter A. Cyran who was Called Home on February 27, 1974. They were married on February 18, 1939 in the Rectory of Saint Stanislaus Church and were blessed with 35 years of happiness together. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was also predeceased by her loving baby daughter, Sandra Leanore Cyran who was Called Home on December 20, 1940; her dear brother, Edmund Praisner; her dear sister, Alice Chmura and her loving son-in-law, Merriel L. “Bud” Vincent who was Called Home on March 25, 2011. She leaves: her devoted children, Leslie A. Vincent of Chicopee, Jean Marie Demers and her husband James of Chicopee, Paula Faye Abrazado and her husband Mel of Kapolei, Hawaii, and Anthony P. Cyran and his wife Michelle of Chicopee; her eight cherished grandchildren, Martha Noonan and her friend Dave Gagnon, Peter Vincent and his wife Susan, Robin Turgeon and her husband Donald, Todd Demers and his partner Kelly Mullahy, Michael Abrazado, Jill Jarry and her husband Brian, Cara Galindo and her husband, Christopher, and Laura Cyran and her partner Justin Lapierre; her 12 cherished great-grandchildren, Megan and Erin Noonan, Matthew and Zachary Turgeon, Tanner and Sydney Demers, Isabella, Gracelyn and Lillyann Jarry and Nicholas, Geoffroy and Nathan Galindo; her cherished great-great grandson, Kaiden Turgeon; her dear sister, Emily Wigo and her husband Charles of Ocean City, NJ; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, November 17, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 16, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
