Manuel P. (Ralph) Santos, 93, of Truro died Monday evening, October 29th at his home in the company of his daughter and granddaughter. He was the husband of the late Helen (Marshall) Santos. Born in Provincetown in 1919, he was the son of the late Manuel J. and Isabel (Guerreiro) Santos.
Ralph served in the 101st Army Infantry in World War II under the overall command of General Patton. After the War, he returned to the trade that he learned as a teenager and was a self-employed mason and plasterer. Ralph did not retire from the trade until he was well into his seventies. The results of his labors can be seen throughout Provincetown: chimneys, fireplaces, brick walls, ceilings, and sidewalks. He enjoyed the work as an art and never saw it as labor.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Roderick and her husband John of Truro as well as their children Abby of North Truro and Pete and his wife, Kate, of Brewster. Ralph was the father of Peter Santos who passed in 1996. Ralph was predeceased by his sisters, Cecelia Munn, Olivia Russe, and brothers Sylvester and Rudy Santos.
Mr. Santos was a member of the Lewis A Young Post of the VFW in Provincetown and the Knights of Columbus.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 9th at 11:00 AM at St Peter’s Chapel in Provincetown. The family asks that in memory of Ralph you might consider a donation to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod at 434 Route 134, Suite D3, South Dennis 02660 or to the Wounded Warrior Project at P.O.Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
