George B. Sanford, Jr. of Wareham, MA died at home surrounded by family on October 28, 2012. He was the husband of Eveline Lorraine (Spaulding) Sanford. They had recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Born in Taunton, MA on September 30, 1923 to George B. and Julia (Crowley) Sanford he graduated from Taunton High School in June 1941.
He attended Northeastern University for two years before joining the U.S. Navy in August 1943 during World War II. He served aboard the USS Meriwether ATA 203 as an ETM 1st Class in the South Pacific until April 1946.
Returning to Northeastern University, he graduated in 1949 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He worked for General Electric in CT before returning to Taunton to join the family business, Sanford Electrical Co., Inc where he worked until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of IBEW 223 since 1947.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Richard and his wife Marjorie (Smith), Stephen and his wife, Jill (Johnson), and William and his wife Denise (Blais), and five grandchildren, Daniel, Kara, Eric, Sean, and Renee. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia and her husband Fred Tripp, sister in law, Trudy Sanford, and brother in law, John Spaulding as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alfred and Charles Sanford.
Funeral will be from the O’Keefe Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street, Taunton, MA Calling hours will be Saturday, November 3. 2012 from 8:30 am – 9: 30 am, with funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church immediately following at 10:00 am. Burial will follow immediately at St. Francis Cemetery with military honors.
