Obituary

WORCESTER - John A. “Jack” Scanlon, Sr., 84, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Golden Living Center the Hermitage after a period of declining health.

He leaves 3 daughters, Kathleen Ortiz of Worcester, Barbara Scanlon of Fall River and Patricia Comeau of Melbourne FL; 3 sisters, Barbara A. Charest, Patricia J. Farley and Mary Ellen Latino; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son John A. Scanlon, Jr., by his daughter Caroline T. Scanlon, by 2 brothers, Richard P. Scanlon and William R. Scanlon and by his grandson, William M. Rivera.

He was born in Worcester, a son of Andrew Peter Scanlon and Julia T. (Angus) Scanlon. He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II, serving from 1946 to 1949.

Mr. Scanlon was employed at Scanlon Oil Co. a family owned and operated business. He also worked at American Steel & Wire in Worcester before retiring. He was proud of his Irish heritage and excelled at singing.

The funeral will be held Saturday, November 3, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street, Webster. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors at the cemetery. A calling period will be from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Saturday, Nov. 3, in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
