Obituary

Jennett Giddens McSwain, 91, of Irwinville, died October 30, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, November 2, at Big Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. McSwain will lie in state at the residence from noon Thursday until 9:30 Friday morning and at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. McSwain was born August 21, 1921 in Berrien County to the late Jim N. and Ola Elizabeth “Lizzie” Luke Giddens. She was a 1938 graduate of Mystic High School and attended Georgia State College for Women on a scholarship. She later attended Ben Hill Irwin Tech where she studied Computer Science. She lived in the community for 78 years where she was co-owner and operator of McSwain Trading Post. She also sat with the elderly. Mrs. McSwain was a member of the Waterloo Homemakers Club and a member of Big Creek Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, and always attended to the bereavement needs of the community. She held the longest membership at Big Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. McSwain will be remembered for her sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years: Horace M. “H. M.” McSwain of Irwinville; three daughters: Martha Mobley and Susan Hyde both of Irwinville and Harriet & Everett Sheffield of Warner Robins; grandchildren: Dennis and Susan Mobley of North Carolina, Cindy and Steve LaHue of Tifton, Lamar Hyde of Irwinville, Michael and Monica Sheffield of Marietta and Jennifer and Gene Misiak of Warner Robins and seven great grandchildren: Casey Hyde, Stephanie (Clint) LaHue Fountain, Michael Fountain, Sydney Mobley, Brady Sheffield, Eliza Sheffield and Isabella Misiak. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter: Little Ellen McSwain; two brothers: James Richard Giddens, Clyde Giddens and one sister: Hattie Burgess; one son-in-law: Roy Hyde and one grandson: David Mobley.
