Fioravante A. Bares, a 38-year resident of Winchester, passed away Oct. 25, 2012. He was the beloved husband for 52 years of Luciana (Sporeni) Bares. Born and raised in Italy, he was the son of Guido and Santina Bares. Mr. Bares was a graduate of Jesuit Leone XIII in Milan and the Polytechnic Institute of Milan with a Doctorate in Civil Engineering. Among his many accomplishments as a civil engineer, he oversaw the building of the foundations of the World Financial Center in New York City, was a consultant for the “Big Dig” Central Artery tunnel project in Boston, assisted in the foundation troubleshooting of 18 subway systems around the world, and the design and construction of several major dams around the world. An Eagle Scout, Fioravante was an avid outdoorsman and great adventurer. In 1958, he was part of the first waterway expedition across Africa via the Nile and Congo Rivers, from Cairo to the Atlantic Ocean. As a member of the Northeastern Bicycle Club, and as a USCF official, Mr. Bares enjoyed cycling competitions around the country, winning many medals for his accomplishments. He was an enthusiastic competitive cycling coach for ten years, and also organized the children’s’ bicycle races for Winchester Town Day. In his spare time, he also loved skiing and was a member of the Winchester Rotary Club. In addition to his wife, Luciana, Mr. Bares is lovingly survived by his children: Vittorio Bares and his wife Suzanna of Londonderry, NH, and Simona Bares-Lemmon and her husband Thomas of Brooklyn, NY. He was also the dear brother of Anna Geronazzo of Milan, Italy and the late Armida Debattista, and the cherished grandfather of Alessio, Katerina, Luca and Carlo. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St. Winchester, on Monday Oct. 29th at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
