Julia (Almeida) Brito, 88, of New Bedford died Thursday October 25, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of Bras M. Brito.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Adrian and Mary (Rodrigues) Almeida, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Brito was formerly employed as a nurse's aide at Hallmark Nursing Home. She had also previously worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
She enjoyed cooking, bowling at the Wonder Bowl, and taking trips to Foxwoods.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Hathaway Manor for the love and support shown to Julia during the past three years.
Survivors include her husband, Bras M. Brito; three children, Mario Brito of Virginia Beach, VA, Kevin Brito and his wife Heather of New Bedford, and Adriann Brito of Randolph; two sisters, Dorothy Lopes and Constance Figueiredo, both of New Bedford; four grandchildren, John Brito, Deontae Brito, Kevin Brito, Jr., and Daman Brito; a great-grandson, Kyle J. Brito; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late John B. Brito and Robert Almeida, grandmother of the late Kyle B. Brito, and sister of the late Pedro Almeida, Adrian Almeida, Jr., Armando Almeida, and John Almeida.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
