WORCESTER-Michael R. Despin, 48, of Worcester died Thursday, October 25th at UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus as of a result of injuries sustained in a car accident on Wednesday. He leaves two sons, Michael Mandella of Southbridge and Patrick Despin of Worcester; a daughter, Stephanie Despin of Worcester; his mother, Louise (Keddy) Despin; two brothers, Mark Despin and Brian Despin both of Webster; two sisters, Tracy Abarca and her husband, Frank and Cheryl Glidden and her husband, Brian both of Worcester; an uncle, Tim Keddy; two grandsons, Gianni and Vincenzo Mandella; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many close friends and his companion, Maria Gonzalez and her sons, Carlos and Chris and his son, Elias. He was predeceased by his father, Donald Despin.
Mr. Despin was born in Worcester and graduated from South High School. Michael worked at Saint-Gobain / Norton Company for 15 years as a machinist. He had a passion for cars, especially mustangs. Mr. Despin enjoyed going to drag racing at New England Dragway in Epping, NH and car shows including the summer nationals. Mike loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching and watching his grandson, Gianni and Elias ride his power wheels and four wheelers.
Mike was a hard worker with a great sense of humor. He loved to joke around, make people laugh and was very dependable. Mr. Despin had a big heart and would do anything for anybody. He was not one to judge. Mike enjoyed painting houses, both inside and out. He also enjoyed going out to get his sausage and onion sandwiches.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 2nd in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday, November 1st from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
