CENTER CONWAY, NH – Dorothy Virginia “Dot” Cormier, age 83, a former resident of Tewksbury, MA, died Thursday morning, October 25, at the Merriman House in North Conway, NH, after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife for 49 years of retired Tewksbury Police Officer, Martin Joseph “Joe” Cormier, who died on April 3, 2008.
Dotty was born in Medford, MA, on November 26, 1928, the only child of the late George and Dorothy V. (Connelley) Maher, and was raised in Malden. Upon her marriage to Joe in 1949, they moved to Tewksbury where they raised their family of five. She and her husband were co-founders of the Orbiteers Drum and Bugle Corps in Tewksbury, which all five of their children actively participated. They were also co-founders of the Tewksbury Veteran’s Association, and active with the South Tewksbury Betterment Association. Mrs. Cormier was a communicant of St. William’s Church when living in Tewksbury. In their retirement, Joe and Dot wintered in Florida, and enjoyed dropping in on old friends throughout the state.
She is survived, and will be sorely missed by her children, Michael Cormier of Mesilla Park, NM, Donna Cormier of Center Conway, Patti Capone and husband Michael of Canterbury, NH, Mary Jo “M.J.” Britton and husband Chip of Phoenix, AZ, and Thomas Cormier of Tewksbury, MA; seven grandchildren, Joseph Cormier and his wife Caitlin of San Antonio, TX, Jessica Johnson and husband Lorin of Albuquerque, NM; Sara Holtby and significant other Peter Moore and Katherine Holtby of Center Conway, Laura Vartanian and her husband Thomas of Albany, NH, Jocelyn Britton and fiancee Vince Wyeyrich of Ahwatukee, AZ, and Tim Britton of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren Dylan Holtby, Kaleb and Bentley Vartanian of Albany, NH; Zachary Moore of Center Conway, and Alexia Dolph of Woonsocket, RI; two sisters-in-law, Mary O’Leary of Medford, and Carol Cormier of Ashburnham; dearest friends Jack and Evelyn Murphy of Intervale, NH; and numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives. She was also grandmother of the late Timothy Holtby.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, October 30, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed in Tewksbury Cemetery.
