Willie L. “Bill” Sikes, Sr., 80, of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Ben Hill County, Georgia died Thursday, October 18, 2012 in Anchorage.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Dudley Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Sikes was born April 2, 1932 in Hiltonia, Georgia to the late Benjamin Jutson Sikes and Carrie Hurst Sikes. He was a veteran of the Korean War and had been stationed in Texas, Florida, and finally at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, until he retired from the U. S. Air force with more than 22 Years of Service where he continued his career and retired from DOD Civilian Service in 1993. He loved the outdoors and fishing in Alaska especially in the Kenai River and was an avid fan of the Alaska Aces. He and his late wife Mary Jane Williamson Sikes lived in the Salem Community of Ben Hill County after his retirement. After her death in 1994 he moved back to Alaska to be near two of his children.
Mr. Sikes is survived by: Son: Billy (Abbe) Sikes of Chugiak, Alaska; Daughters: Sandie “Gina” Wallace (Ronn) of Anchorage, Alaska and Sonja (Jim) Metcalf of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren: J. T. Metcalf, Nick Metcalf and Courtney Sikes; one brother: Gainus Sikes of New York. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Jane Williamson Sikes.
