Methuen – Mary C. (DesRoche) Berthold, 87, of Methuen died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. She was the wife of the late Leo E. Berthold to whom she was married for 42 years.
Mary was born in Lynn, MA on September 12, 1925 and worked as a cook in the Mt. Carmel School cafeteria in Methuen for over 25 years until her retirement in 1987. She loved to donate to various charities and worked with a food program for the Elderly Methuen Housing. She also loved playing Bingo, taking trips to Foxwoods, and being a part of her elder community.
She leaves 3 daughters, Barbara Ward and her husband Arthur of Dracut, Marsha Shields and her husband Thomas of Hampstead, NH, and Mary Dionne and her husband Arthur of Salem, NH; a son, Roger Berthold and his wife Paula of Pelham, NH; 2 brothers, Thomas Olsen of Grand Island, Nebraska and Joseph Olsen of St. Charles, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by a grandson, Roger Berthold Jr.
Mary’s life will be celebrated and lovingly remembered in a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Monica’s Church on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11 AM. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Friends and family will be warmly received in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen on Saturday from 8:30-10:30 AM.
