Maureen C. Carney, age 63, of East Wakefield, NH formerly of Woburn, passed away June 8th, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of William C. Carney. Born and raised here in Woburn where she lived most of her life, she was the cherished daughter of Helen M. (Giffin) and Paul F. Garvey Sr. of Woburn.
”Sissy” as she was known by to her family and friends was a graduate of Woburn High School in 1958 where she was the captain of the girls basketball team and was also a member of the varsity cheerleading squad. Following high school Sissy went on to graduate from the Chandler School for Women.
Sissy was extremely devoted to her family and always had an open door at her home for friends of her children and other family members. She was active with and served as the past president of the Woburn Pop-Warner Cheerleading Assoc.. Her hobbies included traveling, spending time on the beach and snowmobiling. But most often she enjoyed taking care of her family. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Maureen´s memory to the Greater Boston Food Bank 99 Atkinson St. Boston, MA 02118.
In addition to her husband and parents, Maureen is survived by her children, Pamela Jean Conley of Woburn, Colleen Mary Edmonds and her husband Geoffrey of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and William C. Carney Jr. of Rye, NH. She was the loving grandmother of Sean P. Conley, Meghan and Brian C. Edmonds. She is also survived by her brother Paul F. Garvey Jr. and his wife Lisa of Woburn, and sisters, Paula Seminara and her husband Joseph of Burlington, Eileen O´Rourke and her husband William of Tyngsboro.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday, at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 79 Sheridan Circle, Winchester, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
