Margarida Matos, age 89, died Sunday, October 21 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Francisco Matos who passed 1993. Mrs. Matos was the loving mother survived by 7 daughters: Margarida Garcia, Alda Medeiros, Flavia da Silva all of New Bedford; Manuela Cabral of Fall River, Ana Matos of Longs, South Carolina, Rita Matos-Madore of Providence, RI and Sharon Barselou of New Bedford. Mrs. Matos is also survived by 1 son: Walter Matos of New Bedford. Mrs. Matos is survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Matos was the daughter of the late Margarida and Joao Miguel. She was born in Horta Faial, Azores and moved to the New Bedford area March 24, 1959.
Margarida’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in New Bedford at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
