Steven Michael Bagley was born on May 10, 1973, to Philip J. and Eula E. Bagley. He was the second of two children.
Steven Bagley grew up in Teaneck, N.J., and attended Paramus Catholic High School. He was the life of the Class of 1991, where friends remembered Steven’s wonderful smile and fun-loving personality. He was the consummate people person, who made friends wherever he went.
Steven Bagley was an accomplished athlete and loved serving as a Little League umpire. During high school, he played football and he was a great skier. He was an excellent basketball player, who had a great left-hand hook shot. He was regularly offered the chance to attend basketball camps away from home, but despite his parents’ urgings, he would decline, preferring to stay closer to home.
“He never really wanted to leave home,” his mother, Eula, recalled.
Also, many people did not know this, but Steven Bagley was an accomplished pianist. He loved music in general, discussing it with his friends for hours. He was an avid reader, especially science fiction and history.
After high school, Steven Bagley married Liz Mora. The two divorced, but the union produced two lovely daughters, Nicole and Naya, whom he loved very much.
“Steven's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him will always remember what a good heart he had,” Liz Mora said. “Steven was part of a special chapter in my life. May God take him into his kingdom to rest in a beautiful eternity.”
In a message for her father, elder daughter, Nicole, said: “My angel, I miss you so much. I know a thousand words won’t bring you back because I’ve tried. But you will forever be treasured in my heart and I promise to make you proud. I thank you for the beautiful memories we’ve made that I am able to cherish forever. I’ll be seeing you soon, and may you rest in paradise. I love you, Daddy.”
Added younger daughter Naya, “I love you, Daddy, always and forever! Rest in peace, see you soon, my angel.”
A caring person, Steven Bagley always made time to take care of his family and friends in need.
His mother recalls the many chats he would take time to have with her, and how he always knew how to apologize (not an easy feat for many these days). She fondly recounts how Steven was always rushing to aid a neighbor in need of help, even once running an extra-long extension cord through the home he shared with his parents and out the kitchen window to assist a neighbor in need of power.
Steven Bagley loved animals. His sister, Michelle Bagley Lee, remembers the many strays her brother would take in – much to their parents’ loving chagrin. She fondly recalls how he was “a good listener with a crazy laugh.” He loved to laugh!
Steven Bagley loved his daughters, his parents and sister, his nieces and nephews. He loved his friends. He loved adventure and the fastest rides at the amusement park. He loved to take long rides on his bike. He loved camping and fishing with his friends. He loved food and loved to cook, especially for others. He believed cooking for others was a way of providing food for the soul. He could discuss herbs for hours and had a special skill when it came to barbequed chicken and steak.
Steven Bagley was a good man. He is greatly missed by his parents, Philip and Eula Bagley; his daughters, Nicole and Naya Bagley; his sister, Michelle Bagley Lee, and brother-in-law, William Lee; his nieces Sequoia and Jasmyn Lee; his nephews Elijah, Emmanuel and Isaiah Lee; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Nothing meant more to Steven Bagley than family. At this time of profound grief, his family wishes to thank everyone for their support, words of comfort and acts of kindness.
With love,
The Family
