Obituary

GLOUCESTER: John J. “Johnny” Saputo, 55, of Gloucester died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Born in Gloucester on March 28, 1957, he was the loving son of Vincent “Jimmy” and Mary (Orlando) Saputo. He was a graduate of the Gloucester High School, class of 1975.
John was employed as the Business Manager and Director of Music and Liturgy at St. John’s Church, Essex and Sacred Heart Church, Manchester-by-the-Sea. He had previously been an integral part of the former St. Peter’s Church in East Gloucester for twelve years.
He was once the General Manager of Mr. Pips Restaurant and Nightclub in Ft. Lauderdale and seasonally helped out in the Archdiocese of Miami, Florida and St. Ann’s Parish in Wildwood, New Jersey. He was also the former General Manager of the St. Peter’s Club in Gloucester and owner of the Sound Trax Music Store in Gloucester.
Music was ingrained in John’s soul. His love of music began when he was just a child with a small record player. John was a talented self taught musician. Many had the pleasure of hearing him sing and play the organ, and watching him in his element. John shared his talent as a DJ by giving his time to many worthy causes. John also enjoyed sunny Florida, the Miami Dolphins, and spending time in what he considered the “real Jersey Shore” of Wildwood, but nothing compared to the time he spent with his grandsons, Vinny and Sam, who were truly his world.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Dawn Marie and her husband Michael McCarthy and grandsons Vincent and Salvatore “Sam” McCarthy. As well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and godchildren.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning in the Sacred Heart Parish, 62 School, Manchester-by-the-Sea at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Parish from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
